Frequently Asked Questions  -  Scroll to bottom for most current FAQ's

Why can't I login?

This is a members only site and a member must be listed in the main database. When this happens they will be issued a user name and password and will be able to access the members only portion including forums and files room.

How can I get listed if I am already a member?

As soon as all security testing is done on our trial chapters we will be importing the data into the database 1 chapter at a time. Your chapter president will assist us with this.

Will everybody see my information?

The information you enter in your profile is not accessible to the public. Other members will only be able to see your contact name (usually your first name or nickname), your state, and your chapter. Chapter presidents and Board members will have access to other details they might need, like your e-mail address. When you fill in your profile each entry will include an option to hide that information.

How secure is the database?

Besides the Firewalls, SSL encryption, password protection, permission levels and redundancy we also have hardware and services located in a secure data center (an ISO 9001:2000-certified provider) that is monitored onsite 24x7x365. Multiple security checkpoints must be cleared to gain access to data center. Closed-circuit television cameras record all data center activity. Think of it the same as doing online banking.

Why do we need the database?

Various reasons. This is a much needed method of gathering current, up to date data of all members, and in one location. Each member will have the ability to go online and change their information which will automatically update the database. Communication will be greatly improved and the NEB will have the capability of contacting every member.

What if I don't have a computer or e-mail?

Members without e-mail addresses can be identified and contacted by regular mail using a print feature of the database.

What is the 'members only' area?

This is our secure community with event calendars, message boards and forums and access to files and documents.

I tried joing Blue Star Mom's (my daughter is in the NAVY - active duty) and it said unable to locate form. In addition, I have tried to locate a local chapter for Philadelphia, PA and it doesn't appear there is one.

If you go to Chapter Contact Info there is a chapter in Philly listed. The rest of the PA chapters will be listed once they have submitted their information. Also, you can email the membership chair at firstvp@bluestarmothers.org and she can provide you with contact information and help you find the right chapter. This information is on the 'who can join' page. The 'join now' form is currently in test mode and will be available soon. Thank you for your patience while we develop our new website.

I also tried to join. I coudn't find a chapter in all of Illinois! I cant imagine there are no chapters in the Chicago area. We in Illinois have 3,000 guardsmand being deployed to Afghanistan in August. Of those 3,000 1 is my Son and 1 is my grandson! I have the banner in my window and would love to be able to participate in support of these kids. Please let us know when we can. Thanks

Illinois does not currently have any active chapters, however National Chapter 1 does cover that area. You can email National Chapter 1 at cabramow@yahoo.com or membership at firstvp@bluestarmothers.org

Remember -- it only takes 5 moms to start a chapter. Information on starting a chapter is available from the 1st VP at the email address above.

I too have tried to join for over a year. I contacted the first vp and got the info on starting a chapter but that was all. She said she forwarded my information on membership to national and I would have my membership soon but that has not happened either. I don't understand a years wait and I have mailed in 2 checks for membership and a pin and still nothing and when I email someone I get no response now

It is hoped our new website and database will be part of the solution and I am very sorry to hear of your difficulties. I am sure our current board would appreciate the opportunity to make it right. You can email the National President at president@bluestarmothers.org or send a copy of the email to all board members at once at nationalboard@bluestarmothers.org. Include the information you wrote above as well as your State and city. You will get a reply!

My heart prayer for the American Soldier

American Citizen Cease not to pray
Whencever they go

Encompass them Elohim
When the sun hammers down
....Be their Everything (Shade, Cloud, Cool Wind)
When they thirst
....Be their water
Pass before and after them
Give them your eyes to see
....your ears to hear
....your Power to protect
Mighty El you are their Strength
Take hold of their minds and hearts
In their voice let your Will & Roar Abide
In their touch let your Mercies be Known
Whencever they go...
Pass with them that they may only fear Yahweh
...and that each one returns home!

There is a link for chapter information on the top navigation bar and there is a 'join now' button also on the top navigation bar. We really are here -- we are not hard to find. There are several chapters in Ohio -- look at the chapter information and pick one that's close.

Just wondering.. nowhere do I see In-laws posted. My son-in-law is in the Navy stationed in Maine. He just came home after a 6 month deployment to Iraq. I have my Son-in-Service flag in my window. I worried just like any other Mom. I tried to keep my daughter's spirits up. They were married 3 months when he left. I sent E-mails and packages. I brag about him and tell him how proud we are of him. His own Mom does not even do these things.
So no In-Laws??

No, in-laws do not qualify you for full membership at this time. We are chartered by congress and have to follow the code of congress as well as the determination by the Department of Defense. You are welcome to join as an associate member. It is so good you are able to be so supportive.

I am VERY discouraged with the BSM's!!! I sent my application, dues and money for a pin...all of which I have NEVER recieved, in Jan.2008. I have had communications with the President and a Past President ,to name a couple ,and have gotten empty promises. I have decide to give the BSMs till Aug.4th...one day after the National Meeting to get this straight. If I don't get some sort of satisfaction I WILL go to my Congressman, and be more than happy to share my correspondences with him. Maybe if our politians looks into how this organization is run they will have a stiff meeting with those in charge. I can only HOPE a turn for the better for this organization.

I'm looking for some guidance in locating information on chapter naming.
I live in New York and a group of people have started a local Blue Star Mothers & Dads organization. The have labled themselves Chapter 7. When a few of us have asked what the "Chapter 7" stands for we were informed because 7 people started the organization.
Is that how it should work? If not please advise as to how to get a Chapter.
Thank you

Hi Christina, Chapters are assigned numbers by National for each state. The process of starting a chapter begines with contacting the Nationa Membership Chair at firstvp@bluestarmothers.org

The name Blue Star Mothers can't be used unless the chapter has gone through the procedure of chartering. Once a chapter is chartered they are then included in our group tax exemption and 501(c)3

The chapter name should include the area and the chapter number can also be included. Chapter 7 is still available in New York. Contact firstvp@bluestarmothers.org

Our son just graduated from MCRD San Diego as a Marine 01/23/2009. It came to my attention that there may be Recruits who do not have any family and/or friends and, first, don't have anyone to call to say they arrived safely, and second, may not receive any mail while in boot camp. This breaks my heart because I feel deeply and strongly that it is imperative that Recruits receive encouragement while they are in Recruit training. I would like to know if there is an organized effort being established or already established that would ensure a recruit receive mail on mail call day. Maybe a pen-pal program or something. Maybe there is a way to find out, perhaps from the DI's, who does NOT get any mail and see if they are interested in a "pen pal" program?

I would like to get a copy of the Blue Star Mother Cookbook that I sent in recipes for and photos of my two sons. I do not see it listed in the online store. How do I order the cookbook? Thanks. RebeccaON@comcast.net

I recently saw a Blue Star Mother, make a "Blue to Gold" presentation to the mother of a fallen Hero. Can you tell me more about this program. This was the first time I had seen this at a soldiers funeral.

I am a newly appointed Standing Rules Chair for our Chapter. Are there resources I might access? Possibly contact other chapters? Any suggestions you might offer would be greatly appreciated - (I have reviewed all of the available on-line documents)
Thank you,
Margie Jacobs

I'd like to have a resource for PTSD information added to our website. Who should I contact to review procedures?

Thanks,
Rose

I would use the Business e-list and request feedback from other Chapters. First you need to update your profile on line to make sure your part of the elist group. If you need further assistance with joining the elist group please email webmaster@bluestarmothers.org

My stepson just finished training for the National Guard. He will not be deployed for at least a year, as we understand it, and will be doing training exercises one weekend a month. My husband bought the Blue Star flag and is displaying it. Is this proper, or is it only to be displayed during deployment?

Hi. I am a proud Mom of an active Army soldier. I have paid the $20 and submitted my application on May 9, 2010. I have not received any information from the Chapter in my area or the status of my application. I have tried to email the chapter and haven't heard anything from them.

The email Wendy just sent to all members detailing what chapters are deliquent in submitting to National.........Ohio Chapter #3 was listed as missing our Chapter CHarter Date and our bank reconciliation report. Both of those are on my annual chapter report that was submitted in January.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ON THE SPREADSHEET SO OHIO CHAPTER #3 IS NOT LISTED AS MISSING THOSE DOCUMENTS.
PLEASE NOTIFY ME AS CHAPTER PRESIDENT THAT WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE.
The Chaplain fund was paid to our Ohio Department and they are in the process of sending it to you.
Linda Mauro, President
Miami Valley Chapter #3 (Ohio)
